Youth Safety Rails meet the Consumer Products Safety Commission Loft & Bunk Bed Guidelines and are required for all beds used by children under 13 years old. Each Safety Rail Set includes safety rails on all four sides with a small opening to enter the bed. The number of safety rails sets needed are: (2) sets for mattresses up to 8" thick and (3) sets for mattresses 9" - 16" thick.

The Safety Rails are also used as a Pillow Stop to prevent pillows from falling off and we add a Pillow Stop to the bottom bunk.

Safety Rail Height Above Mattress: The top of the Safety Rails are positioned 5" above the top of the mattress which follows the Consumer Products Safety Commission guidelines. If you have young children and would like the safety rails to be higher we also offer additional safety rail sets to go 10", 15" or 20" above the top of the mattress. You will also need to select the Taller Legs to be able to add additional sets of safety rails.

Adult Safety Rails are designed for college students and adults only. They must not be used by children under 13 years old. One safety rail is placed 5" above the top of the mattress on the front (long side) and if the back (long side) is not pushed up against a wall an optional second safety rail may be ordered for the back.

Pillow Stop: If you purchase the Adult Use Safety Rails there is no Pillow Stop at the headboard end of the bed to prevent your pillow from falling out. You can optionally add an upper and lower Pillow Stop to your order.

Leg Height: We have multiple leg heights available based on your ceiling height. If you ordered the Extra Safety Rails you will need to select the next size taller legs. Standard Legs are for ceilings up to 8', Extra Tall Legs for ceilings up to 9' and Super Tall Legs for ceilings up to 10'.

We always cut the legs to the proper height based on your specifications.

Leg Top Design: We have Square Top & Round Top Legs. The Round Top Legs adds a nice decorative look and is very popular with beds for kid's bedrooms. If you order a Top Shelf, the legs will have a Square Top to support the Top Shelf.

Headboards and Footboards may be installed at either end. The optional shelves are 5-1/2" deep, they overhang the mattress by 3" and do not interfere with the placement of the pillow or the person sleeping. The shelves are perfect for storing items such as a cell phone, iPod, iPad, glasses, alarm clock, books or a reading light. The Slatted Headboards have 1/2" gap between the slats allowing you to pass your charger cord between the slats to be used as a nighttime charging station.

The headboards and footboards are 20" high. The footboard covers the end of the mattress and goes 5" above the top of the mattress.

Shown here is a bed with the Solid Headboard and Solid Footboard. If you order both a Headboard and Footboard you will need to order either a Angled Front Ladder or Vertical Front Ladder.

Top Shelf is placed at the top of the Headboard or Footboard Legs.

Single & Double Shelf Headboards may be used just by themselves or may be combined with the other headboards below. They have a backboard to prevent items from falling out the back. By themselves they do not serve as a Pillow Stop. The Pillow Stop comes with the other headboards below or when selecting the Safety Rails. View the Single & Double Bookshelf Headboard Specs.

Slatted Headboards have 1/2" gap between the slats and also serves as a Pillow Stop. The second photo shows it combined with the Double Shelf.

Solid Headboards also serve as a Pillow Stop. The second photo shows the Solid Headboard combined with the Double Shelf. The Single Shelf may be installed either in the upper or lower position.

Vertical End Ladder: Left photo. The Vertical End Ladder may be placed at either side of either end. You need about 2 feet of space at the end of the bed to be able to climb up.

Vertical Front Ladder: Right photo. If you do not have enough space at the end to climb up you can use the optional Vertical Front (long side) Ladder to climb up the front. This may be installed at either end.

Angled End Ladder: (left photo) & Angled Front Ladder: (right photo). We also have Angled Ladders which may be attached to the (short) End or the Front (long side) of the bed. They can be assembled either at the left or right ends of the bed. The angled ladder 2x4 rungs are positioned flat giving you a larger surface area for climbing up and it is much easier on your feet. The Angled Ladder comes pre-assembled and is ready to be attached, is 18" wide and extends out roughly 18" at the bottom. The weight capacity of the standard angled ladder is 200 lbs.

HD-Heavy Duty Ladders: The weight capacity of the HD-Heavy Duty ladder is 300 lbs.

Angled Ladder Handrails: We also have Handrails for our Angled Ladders. They attach to both sides of the Angled Ladder and it makes it much easier for children climbing up and down.

Ladder Hooks: We have Ladder Hooks available if you need the angled ladder to be easily removable. Please note that the Consumer Products Safety Commission Bunk Bed Guidelines are that ladders need to be screwed to the bed. Hooks are not allowed. If this is going to be used by kids or in a Airbnb/Vrbo/STR or any commercial rental situation, the ladder needs to be screwed to the bed.

Corner & Rung Braces: For most of our standard beds, Corner and Rung Braces are not required. However if you have customized it to make it taller or longer or if you want additional bracing then Corner and/or Rung Braces may be added. Also some colleges require all beds to have Corner & Rung Braces. The Corner Braces go on the long sides, Rung Braces go on the rungs at the headboard & footboard ends.
